Born in Japan in 1954, Masataka Fukuda studied mechanical engineering at Kogakuin University before beginning his career in handcrafted furniture. He later transitioned to knife-making, and in 1985, gained prominence in Japan’s knife industry with his outstanding creations.
He went on to win numerous prestigious awards, including the JKG Best Knife Award and the grand prize at the Tokyu Hands Handmade Knife Contest, earning the reputation of a true “maverick” in the field. Since 1989, Fukuda has held almost yearly solo exhibitions, continually integrating refined craftsmanship and innovative design into his works.
His knives retain traditional techniques while embracing modern artistic expressions, earning widespread acclaim from collectors and knife enthusiasts alike.
