Collection: Katsuhiko Miura

Katsuhiko Miura is a Japanese artisan renowned for his intricate etching, urushi lacquer painting, and inlay work. At 77 years old, he has dedicated over five decades to his craft, operating a small family-run workshop in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture. Throughout his career, Miura has collaborated with various knife manufacturers in Seki, enhancing their blades with his detailed etchings.

Upon retiring, Miura delved into traditional Japanese urushi lacquer art and resin crafts as personal pursuits. He now applies these artistic techniques to select Seki-made knives, adorning them with blade and bolster etchings, as well as urushi lacquer paintings on the handles. His creations often depict wildlife scenes, birds, and animals, all derived from his original sketches.

Miura's work is characterized by its meticulous detail on the challenging small surfaces of metal and wood. Given the time-intensive nature of his process and the concentration required, he crafts only when he feels at ease and inspired. An avid nature enthusiast, he enjoys sketching and frequently embarks on hikes along nearby rivers and mountains.

Due to the limited production stemming from his selective working periods, Miura's pieces are highly valued by collectors and enthusiasts alike.
