Four Centuries of Sharpness and Tradition — The Kyoto Kitchen Knives of Kanetaka Hamono
In front of Kyoto’s historic Rokkakudō stands a cutlery shop with nearly four centuries of tradition —
Kanetaka Hamono Rouho.
Founded in 1651, during the Keian era of the Edo period, its roots trace back to the lineage of the Mino swordsmith Fujiwara Kanetaka. Today, the craft lives on through the hands of the seventh-generation successor, Yoshitaka Kanetaka.
From its beginnings in razor forging to crafting specialized tools for Kyoto cuisine, tea ceremony, and ikebana, Kanetaka has always walked hand in hand with the city’s cultural heritage.
Now, its kitchen knives have become the brand’s signature. Forged from robust stainless steel, sharpened by skilled hands for unmatched precision, and shaped into elegant, well-balanced forms, they are more than daily tools — they are works of art imbued with beauty.
At Sunizumi Store, we are honored to bring you these kitchen knives, carrying the spirit of Kyoto’s tradition and craftsmanship.
A single knife can bring a new story to life in your kitchen.
